Popup Monument
For the ten-day festival of the Museum Judengasse raumlaborberlin brought the kitchenmonument to Frankfurt am Main.
The Museum Judengasse wanted to bring the museum to the city, to attract attention. In an echo to the history of the jewish tradition of temporary builings the bubble gets inflated again every morning. For the initiators the bubble symbolises the fragile character of jewish places in history. The museums´shielded room is brought to a transparent and open place. The visitors have the possibility to participate in the planning of the new Jewish Museum through different ways of voting.
The line of tables meanders along the fountain into the interior of the Popup Monument. Pictures and short bios of famous jewish personalities are printed onto the tabletops. The visitors could vote for whom they want to learn more about in the future jewish museum. The curators are sitting at a table inside the bubble, welcoming visitors to an open discussion.
In the evening the Popup Monument turns into a platform for contemporary jewish culture.
With a workshop raumlaborberlin took part in the festival. While learning to build their own chair the attendees helped each other and shared their skills. They contributed their chair to the festival and after the ten days they could take it home.
